Location: Oxford

Salary: £90 - £110 per day

Hours: Full time 8.30 - 4pm Mon, Tues, Weds then 8.30 - 3.30pm Thurs & Fri

Personal care is required as part of this role.

We are looking for a Children’s Support Worker who is resilient and nurturing to become part of our unique school community, caring for young people who have severe and complex learning needs and autism. The students are aged 8 - 19, with a cognitive developemnt age of 0-36 months, therefore the curriculum thats followed at the school is similar to the EYFS framework level. The successful children’s Support Worker would be the person to give encouragement and praise when needed, to be patient and understanding during times of crisis and to inspire them to grow and develop.

You will be working with a student on a 1:1 basis, but you'll be based in a classroom environment. Due to the severe learning needs of the students, you will be part of a classroom team, providing regulation and emotional support for 90% of the day. You will be required to be pro‑active, kind, communicative with non‑verbal students (so experience with communication cards or PECS is desirable) and patient.

The role is a long‑term opportunity for the rest of the academic year, with potential to go permanent for the right support worker.

What do you need?
  • Experience working with children, ideally in a residential support worker capacity or working with young adults in a nurturing or care environment, including SEND schools
  • We want people who are naturally caring, flexible and resilient.
  • Passionate about supporting children to lead happy lives.
  • Personal care is required.
  • Great communication skills, positive and energetic.
  • Ability to remain calm during sometimes challenging situations.
  • You need to be able to work flexibly in caring for the children. You might be required to work outdoors in the forest garden, or get involved in local community activities such as visiting the local farm and swimming pool.
What does the job involve?

Be part of a caring team that provides a safe and nurturing school environment. Despite being employed by TeacherActive, you will still feel part of the school team. Provide emotional and physical support to allow the children to reach their full potential in sometimes challenging situations. Day to day 1:1 support with students with severe and complex learning needs and autism.
