Job description

This permanent post offers a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Physiotherapist to join an existing and well-established multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and support staff delivering services to children and young people in the East Cornwall area.

Do you have effective communication skills, a flexible approach, and the ability to work both as part of a team and independently? Can you demonstrate an enthusiastic approach to learning and service delivery? Have you experience of working with children?

You will deliver assessment and evidence-based treatments for babies, children and young people with neurological and neuromuscular conditions which result in movement impairment and/or global developmental delay and physical and/or learning disabilities. You will have the opportunity to work in one of our Special Schools.

You will work in conjunction with colleagues in the health community, Education Authority, Social Care and other partnership agencies to deliver seamless co‑ordinated care to patients and their families, and disseminate knowledge and facilitate a better understanding of disorders of movement impairment. You will contribute to differential diagnoses for children on your caseload. We can offer additional hours if needed.

You will assess for and deliver evidence based, holistic care for infants, children and young adults with movement disorders of neuro‑muscular aetiologies, including those with complex physical disabilities and challenging behaviour.

You will assess for, and instruct children, their families and carers in the use of special equipment and orthoses, and jointly agree outcome measures to establish their efficacy. You will set therapeutic goals in collaboration with the child, parents and carers.

Under the guidance of senior colleagues, and through regular performance reviews, you will demonstrate competency to practise as an autonomous practitioner within the Children’s Community Therapy Service protocols and guidelines.

You will be able to demonstrate effective caseload management by participating in regular caseload reviews.

You will prepare Education and Health Care Plan submissions, and as required, statements for medico‑legal and Safeguarding purposes etc. You will be able to work with multi‑agencies to contribute to holistic care.

You will delegate to, and supervise, junior staff and students. You will participate in service development and continuous service improvement.
