Job summary

Capability Scotland is recruiting a Children’s Support Worker to join our residential and Lifeskills services in Lanark. You will support children aged 5–20 with complex disabilities in a campus-based setting, delivering personal care, mobility support, and life-skills activities across day, evening, and sleepover shifts.

The role offers permanent contracts with varied hours (full-time, part-time, relief) and benefits including generous annual leave, pension contributions, and refer-a-friend

Children’s Support Worker – Residential & Lifeskills Services

Location: Stanmore House Residential, Stanmore Road, Lanark, ML11 7RR
Salary: £24,544.90 per year, pro rata/ £13.45 per hour (+ £14.12 nightshift premium)
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: Up to 35 hrs/week – full-time, part-time, relief, weekend, and sleepover shifts available

We are currently recruiting experienced Support Workers to join our residential, respite and Lifeskills services based in Lanark.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with complex disabilities, helping them develop independence, confidence and life skills in a safe, supportive environment.

About the Role

Stanmore House Residential provides a combination of boarding (linked to Stanmore House School) and residential/respite care for children and young people across Scotland.

You’ll be supporting individuals aged 5 to 20 within a fully adapted, campus-based setting on the outskirts of Lanark.

Our service includes four bungalows supporting up to 16 young people. Support is delivered on a one-to-one and small group basis.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Personal care, dressing and medication support
  • Assisting with mobility and mealtimes
  • Supporting attendance at school and appointments
  • Encouraging participation in recreational and social activities

Lifeskills Services

We also have opportunities within our Lifeskills team, which includes:

  • Building-Based Support: Structured, on-site activities to develop independence
  • Community Access: Supporting young people to attend local activities such as music, drama or sports
  • Respite Support: Providing short breaks while promoting key life skills

Our Lanark campus offers a unique and engaging setting, including:

  • Indoor swimming pool and hydrotherapy facilities
  • Rebound therapy and sensory rooms
  • On-site cinema and beauty salon
  • Strong links with the local community

Working Pattern

You’ll work a mix of shifts including:

  • Day shifts (7:30am – 3:00pm)
  • Back shifts (2:30pm – 10:00pm)
  • Night shifts (9:45pm – 8:45am)

What We’re Looking For

  • Caring, patient, and reliable individuals who are dedicated to the people we support
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Previous experience in care or social support is a plus but not essential
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and sleepover shifts
  • UK Driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential due to the logistics of the role
  • Remaining vacancies are *female-only due to intimate care requirements (Schedule 9 Part 1 (1)(1)(a) Equality Act 2010)
