Job description

Children and Young People Support Worker (Domestic Abuse)
  • Full-time
  • Contract type: Permanent, full-time
  • Department: Justice

At Catch22, we are proud of our reputation as a modern and progressive employer. Our 1,300 colleagues and 300 volunteers work at every stage of the social welfare cycle, supporting over 60,000 individuals from cradle to career.

Catch22 exists to help build a society where everyone has a good place to live, good people around them, and a fulfilling purpose. We achieve this in two ways: firstly, by improving lives on the frontline through delivery of public services; secondly, by using our knowledge to change 'the system'—to fix the complex web that can trap and disempower those it was set up to help. With the heart of a charity and the mindset of a business, we are uniquely placed to deliver on this challenging agenda.

Beacon Victim Care Service

Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner has appointed Catch22 to deliver the Beacon Victim Care Service across the county. Catch22 Victim Services provide tailored support to individuals, empowering them to cope and recover from the impact of crime.

As a Beacon Support Worker, you will be the named and allocated worker providing support to children and young victims and witnesses of domestic abuse. You will build and sustain high-quality relationships with young victims through support that wins confidence and trust. You will work collaboratively with a wide range of agencies to ensure a robust referral pathway is in place.

This role sits within the Beacon Family Hub, which primarily works with Child on Parent violence. You may also support a small caseload of children and parents affected by this. The focus will be on working with children and young people who have witnessed or been victims of domestic abuse, especially where there is a risk of these children exhibiting the abusive behaviors they have witnessed.

You will be a passionate and experienced caseworker with an understanding and commitment to the needs of victims and witnesses, and how the Victim Service can effectively address these needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • A confident, professional, and creative individual with a ‘can-do’ approach.
  • The ability to guide young victims and witnesses through their journey to cope and recover following a crime, while addressing mitigating factors or changing needs.
  • The ability to build rapport with clients and create safe spaces for open discussion about their experiences.
  • Represent Catch22 as a trusted professional to clients and when networking or advocating with other services or organizations, such as police, social workers, and schools.
  • Work as part of a team to improve shared knowledge and expertise within the service and across Catch22.

Interested applicants should review the Job Description & Person Specification for more details. For questions about the role or recruitment process, please refer to our contact information on the Candidate Help Page, and include reference REF3637X in your message.

Additional Requirements
  • Full UK Driving License and access to a personal vehicle for work purposes.
  • Eligibility for NPPV (non-police personnel vetting) check, requiring residence in the UK for the past 3 years, with some exceptions.
Contract Details
  • Permanent
  • Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Location: Hybrid approach—office, home, and client visits across Hertfordshire

Applications will be considered as they are received, so early submission is encouraged. Catch22 reserves the right to withdraw the vacancy without notice if the deadline passes.

Screening and Recruitment
  • Successful candidates will undergo enhanced DBS, police vetting, and right to work checks.
  • Catch22 does not currently sponsor visas. Please see the relevant register for sponsors.
Proactive Recruitment Strategy

We are building a pool of pre-cleared candidates for future roles. Successful applicants will complete all pre-employment checks to join promptly when a position arises.

How to Apply

Please submit your CV, cover letter, and completed screening questions. Applications without these will not be considered. We do not accept AI-generated applications, as we aim for fair and genuine recruitment processes.

Our Commitments

Catch22 supports career development, with many leaders having started in frontline roles. We are committed to opportunity, progression, and banning the box, meaning criminal convictions are discussed at the interview stage, not on application.
