Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking a Head of Engineering – Substations to lead the Substations discipline, shaping how we design, develop and assure the transmission network of the future. You will provide technical leadership and governance across projects, guiding standards, policies and technical guidance.

You will manage ~40 engineers, drive innovation, and partner with stakeholders and the supply chain to deliver safe, reliable and cost-effective solutions in a dynamic energy transition.

Qualifications

• Degree-level engineering qualification or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems and Substation engineering.
• Significant senior engineering or technical leadership experience.
• Understanding of engineering governance, Technical Authority and Design Authority.
• Strong people leadership, communication and commercial judgement.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across the Substations discipline, setting direction and ensuring engineering standards and guidance.
• Lead Technical Authority for Substations, ensuring robust governance across projects.
• Drive innovation, Value Engineering and standardisation for better outcomes.
• Provide senior technical judgement balancing safety, reliability, operability, and cost.
• Build a high-performing engineering community and collaborate with partners and supply chain.
