Job summary

The University of Oxford is seeking a senior professional lead for risk, compliance and assurance to shape and continually develop its institutional framework for managing material risks, regulatory demands and robust assurance. You will steer its multi-year programme and advise on complex risk and governance matters.

Operating across a federated organisation, you will lead a multidisciplinary function, work with senior leaders, and ensure clear, proportionate responses to external requirements

Qualifications

• Significant senior management experience with enterprise risk, compliance, assurance and/or internal control.
• Experience designing and implementing organisation-wide governance frameworks within complex federated organisations.
• Experience leading organisation-wide transformation and change.
• Experience advising executive leaders on risk, compliance and assurance matters.
• Strong understanding of legal, regulatory, funder and governance requirements for complex public institutions.
• Extensive experience advising boards on institutional risk and assurance matters.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for senior non-specialist audiences.
• Ability to influence decisions and drive action across organisational boundaries.
• Judgement, integrity and resilience for senior institutional level roles.

Responsibilities

• Shape and develop the University’s risk, compliance and assurance framework.
• Advise senior leaders and committees on significant risk and control matters.
• Establish university-wide standards while recognising devolved accountability.
• Serve as Secretary to the Audit and Scrutiny Committee and manage relationships with internal audit.
• Lead a multidisciplinary function and drive sustainable change across the University.
