The Trust aims to appoint a Chief Registrar, building on the success of previous cohorts. Supported by the Royal College of Physicians and Health Education England, these roles are designed to help trainees develop essential skills for a future consultant career.
The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Chief Registrar Programme is a healthcare management and leadership training initiative for senior trainees emerging as future healthcare leaders. It is part of the Future Hospital Programme, established to implement the 2012 Future Hospital Commission's recommendations. A key outcome was to create the Chief Registrar role, a senior position focused on leading and coordinating medical care 24/7 to optimize patient and service outcomes.
The role combines senior clinical training with healthcare leadership and management development, offering a unique growth opportunity. Within a Trust, activities may include managing services, coordinating medical care, quality and service improvement, education and training, service redesign, and workforce transformation.
We seek a Chief Registrar to join our progressive team committed to delivering patient-centered, innovative care. There are two positions within Acute General Medicine; one has already been filled.

60% of basic time will focus on delivering and leading ambulatory clinical care at John Radcliffe and Horton sites, expanding the reach of contemporary ambulatory services. The additional hours will support leadership during peak periods, particularly in rapid assessment and treatment, aiming for patients to be discharged by midnight. The role includes contributing to weekend and late evening shifts, but not overnight care beyond midnight or before 7am.
40% of time will be dedicated to supporting a shift towards an ambulatory-by-default model, emphasizing 24/7 patient-centered assessment, innovative pathways, and integration of services across hospital and community settings. Activities will align with the Trust’s vision and the Future Hospital recommendations, focusing on safety, quality, and compassionate care.
