Job summary

BBC Radio 5 Live in Salford is seeking a co-presenter for 5 Live Breakfast to deliver the station’s flagship show five mornings a week from Salford studios. You will work with Naga Munchetty to host engaging interviews, alongside delivering live news and sport with clear editorial judgment.

As a highly experienced broadcaster and journalist, you’ll guide the day’s agenda, interrogate major stories, and inform and entertain diverse audiences across the UK. This is a 2-year fixed term contract.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience presenting live speech radio, especially in news or sport.
  • Strong editorial judgment and knowledge of BBC policies.
  • Experience scrutinising and explaining major breaking news stories.
  • Excellent in-depth sporting knowledge and passion.
  • Ability to engage the programme's audience.
  • Rigorous journalistic integrity with the confidence to hold power to account.
  • Warm personality with the ability to see the funny side of life.
  • Creativity to generate original ideas for the programme.

  • Contribute to the growth of 5 Live’s digital and social media strategy, to build audiences on BBC Sounds and other platforms.

Purpose of the role

BBC Radio 5 Live is the voice of the UK, home of live news, sport, and conversation that matters. It’s BBC Radio’s main outlet for breaking news, bringing its audience major news stories as they happen, and providing context with wide-ranging analysis and discussion. As co-presenter of 5 Live Breakfast, you’ll work alongside Naga Munchetty to deliver the station’s flagship news show five days a week from our Salford studios. A highly experienced broadcaster and journalist, you’ll help the station lead the day’s agenda, interrogating the big stories of the day, interviewing guests from across the news and sport spectrum, bringing a broad and deep knowledge of UK and global news, current affairs and sport. You’ll be able to engage, inform, and entertain audiences, appealing to news and sports fans of all ages and from all backgrounds and areas across the UK.

Your key responsibilities and impact

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of presentation within live speech radio, ideally in news and/or sport.
  • Strong editorial judgment and knowledge of BBC editorial policy.
  • Demonstrable experience in scrutinising and explaining major breaking news stories
  • Excellent in-depth sporting knowledge and passion.
  • Ability to engage and involve 5 Live’s audience
  • Rigorous journalistic integrity with the confidence to hold people with power to account.
  • Warm personality with the ability to see the funny side of life.
  • Creativity to identify and generate original ideas to implement within the programme.
