Based in St Johns Wood, North West London, The Wellington Hospital is the largest private hospital in the UK, offering a wide range of healthcare services including Robotic-assisted surgeries, a Hybrid imaging unit, cancer, haematology, and chemotherapy treatments, and a 30-bed intensive care unit specialising in cardiac and neurology care.

About the position:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Senior Management team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The CFO will play a strategic role in managing the facility, with primary responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial activities, including accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, and workforce planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as a financial advisor to the hospital leadership team, ensuring understanding of financial risks and opportunities, and lead the use of financial resources to support hospital development.
  • Provide vision, direction, and leadership to achieve strategic goals, supporting reporting teams to align with strategic intent.
  • Collaborate to maximise resource value, reviewing and improving models of service delivery.
  • Lead productivity management efforts, working with leaders and HODs to meet targets and manage the workforce effectively.
  • Oversee financial analysis and develop business cases for major projects.
  • Coordinate with consultants to align strategies and maximise margin opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with financial, accounting, auditing, and information obligations in collaboration with Corporate Finance.
  • Maintain robust financial management systems to meet objectives and legal requirements.
  • Ensure staffing processes align with budgets, including staffing matrices and schedules.
  • Oversee accrual protocols and ensure HODs understand their responsibilities.
  • Work with Contracts and International Marketing to develop policies for international patient packages and monitor compliance.
  • Lead the annual business planning cycle and prepare for Monthly Operational Review meetings with Head Office Executives.

Skills and Experience:

  • Degree-level education, with a Masters or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Full qualification in CCAB bodies or CIMA.
  • Experience in budget and manpower management.
  • Effective influencing, negotiating, and presentation skills.
  • Strong strategy formulation skills.
  • Advanced financial management skills to sustain and grow the hospital as a successful entity.
  • Leadership experience in developing high-performing teams.
