Job summary

London Borough of Newham is seeking a high-calibre leader to become Head of Chief Executive's Office, delivering strategic support to the Chief Executive and helping shape the future direction of the organisation.

You will lead the CE Office, manage governance and business planning, and drive performance improvements across the council, while collaborating with the Mayor's Office, Cabinet and external partners. This is a 1-year fixed-term appointment with an opportunity to extend.

Qualifications

• Leadership and strategic thinking for senior organisational roles.
• Ability to provide strategic advice, research, and policy support to the Chief Executive.
• Experience in governance, business planning and handling sensitive issues.

Responsibilities

• Leading the day-to-day operation of the Chief Executive's Office.
• Providing strategic advice, research, briefings and policy support to the Chief Executive.
• Managing forward planning, governance and business planning processes.
• Providing oversight of complaints, enquiries and casework on behalf of the Chief Executive.
• Supporting the delivery of key corporate priorities and organisational improvement activity.
• Managing the Newham Transformation and Improvement Board and supporting external assurance bodies.
• Leading and developing a high-performing team.
• Working closely with the Mayor's Office, Corporate Leadership Board, councillors, government departments, partners and stakeholders.
