Chief Executive Officer (Transition)

Location: Surrey

Package: Circa £130k + Bonus + Car + Benefits

Overview

The CEO will transition into full business accountability during a short transition and exit of the current CEO, following the business acquisition by a key investor. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the construction industry, particularly in site services, and the ability to lead the business through a period of growth, transformation, and increased market share.

We are seeking a Director/Head of who is looking to make the first step into a c-suite role.

The role will involve engaging with every aspect of the business, including operations, finance, commercial strategy, and client relationships, to ensure a seamless transition into the CEO position. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving financial performance, EBITDA growth, and commercial success while leveraging the resources and networks.

Experience of Construction Site Services and/or electricity is preferred.

  1. Strategic Leadership and Business Growth
  2. Develop and execute a comprehensive growth strategy to increase market share and expand business presence in the UK construction industry.
  3. Identify and capitalise on new business opportunities, including potential diversification into adjacent markets or services.
  4. Leverage the resources, expertise, and networks of the Belgium-based parent company to drive innovation and expansion.
  5. Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners to ensure long-term business success.
  6. Financial Performance and Commercial Acumen
  7. Take full ownership of the P&L, ensuring the business meets or exceeds financial targets, including revenue growth, EBITDA, and profitability.
  8. Implement cost-effective measures to optimise operational efficiency and improve margins.
  9. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning to ensure sustainable growth and financial stability.
  10. Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and industry developments to inform strategic decision-making.
  11. Operational Excellence
  12. Ensure the seamless delivery of temporary site services, maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  13. Oversee the management of the business's extensive plant inventory, ensuring all equipment is well-maintained, site-ready, and compliant with health & safety regulations.
  14. Work closely with the workshop team, site operatives, and office staff to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
  15. Implement best practices in health & safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  16. Leadership and Team Development
  17. Provide strong, visionary leadership to the leadership team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  18. Mentor and develop key team members, ensuring the organisation has the talent and capabilities to support its growth ambitions.
  19. Act as a role model for the company’s values, promoting a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Transition to CEO

Engage with every aspect of the business to gain a deep understanding of its operations, challenges, and opportunities. Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure a smooth transition into the CEO role. Develop a clear roadmap for the future of the business, aligning with the strategic objectives of the parent company.

Key Skills & Experience

  1. Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the construction industry, preferably with a focus on site services or related sectors.
  2. Strong financial acumen, with a track record of delivering P&L growth, EBITDA improvement, and commercial success.
  3. Comprehensive understanding of the UK construction market, including key players, trends, and regulatory requirements.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute growth strategies, driving business expansion and increased market share.
  5. Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners.
  7. A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to identify and capitalise on new opportunities.
  8. Experience working within a private equity or acquisitive environment.
  9. Knowledge of health & safety regulations and best practices in the construction industry.
  10. Familiarity with plant equipment, including maintenance and operational requirements.
  11. Experience working with international parent companies or within a group structure.
  12. A degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  13. An MBA or similar qualification is desirable but not essential.
  14. Strategic thinker with a results-driven approach.
  15. Resilient and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  16. High levels of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
  17. Passionate about driving business growth and delivering exceptional results.
