Job summary

Avon Fire & Rescue Service seeks an experienced Head of Estates to lead strategic development, management and transformation of the service's estate, ensuring buildings are safe, sustainable and fit for purpose.

You will oversee estate planning, capital projects, compliance and continuous improvement, reporting to senior leaders and the Fire Authority, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver high-quality environments across Bath, Weston-super-Mare and other sites.

Qualifications

• Higher or further education in Building or Facilities Management or related field.
• Up-to-date knowledge of legislation, compliance, sustainability in buildings.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, APM, IWFM) or willingness to pursue.
• Understanding of Fire Service or similar public sector context and statutory requirements.
• Experience in senior estates roles within the public sector or similar.
• Experience in energy management and sustainability within estates operations.
• Experience working with local politicians and political acumen.
• Experience of Private Finance Initiative.

Responsibilities

• Lead management, maintenance and security of the Service's buildings and land, ensuring 24/7 operation and compliance with health and safety requirements.
• Develop and deliver Estates Strategy aligning assets with operational needs and budgets.
• Be a visible LT member promoting culture change, inclusion and continuous improvement.
• Prepare reports and business cases for senior leaders, the Fire Authority and other stakeholders.
• Provide expert estates advice using surveys, performance data and risk assessments.
