Job summary

Wellcome Sanger Institute seeks a Head of Enterprise IT Architecture to lead architecture strategy and governance across a complex technology landscape, including enterprise apps, web, compute, databases and infrastructure.

You will chair the Design Authority, align designs with strategic goals and technology roadmaps, and drive interoperability, security and long-term sustainability across IDS. This senior role partners with scientific and operational leaders to enable breakthrough research.

Qualifications

• Extensive leadership experience in IT solution architecture within a complex tech environment.
• Ability to collaborate with senior scientific, operational and technology stakeholders.
• Proven track record in architecture governance and standardisation.

Responsibilities

• Chair the Technical Design Authority and coordinate enterprise, domain and solution architecture across research, operational and infrastructure domains.
• Develop architecture principles, standards and technology roadmaps to guide institutional investment and delivery.
• Lead technical leads across enterprise applications, web, scientific compute, databases and infrastructure, and oversee architectural governance and design assurance.
• Oversee simplification of the technology estate to reduce debt while ensuring interoperability and data integrity.
• Represent the Institute in external architecture forums and build strategic partnerships with organisations such as UKRI and EMBL-EBI.
