Job summary
Allstate NI is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the Developer Experience organization, shaping technical strategy and driving adoption of modern tooling across globally distributed teams. This hands-on leader will champion AI-assisted development, platform improvements, and security, while partnering with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable software solutions.
The role requires seasoned software engineering leadership, strong communication, and a track record
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience (Java)
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading engineering organizations, platform engineering teams, or developer experience functions
- Hands-on experience building software and working with developer platforms, automation tools, and cloud-native tech
- Strong understanding of Python and JavaScript
- Experience with GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted engineering tools, and emerging agentic development capabilities
- Ability to influence senior technical leaders and drive adoption of new tech/practices
- Experience presenting technical concepts and engaging with engineering communities
Responsibilities
- Lead vision, strategy, and execution of Allstate's Developer Experience program to provide modern, secure tooling and platforms
- Advocate for the engineering community by gathering feedback and driving improvements
- Contribute to software engineering practices, prototypes, automation, and platform improvements
- Evaluate and govern developer tools and platforms for security and scalability
- Champion AI-assisted software development and emerging capabilities
- Collaborate with engineering leaders and stakeholders to ensure a seamless development experience
- Drive innovation through experiments, proofs-of-concept, and evaluations of new tech
- Define KPIs on developer productivity, platform adoption, and operational excellence
- Build and lead high-performing teams with a culture of excellence and customer-centricity
- Influence enterprise engineering standards and technology decisions across the lifecycle
- Lead globally distributed teams to deliver modern engineering capabilities
