Job summary

AWD online in the United Kingdom is seeking a seasoned Head of Data Governance to lead enterprise data governance and management within a regulated environment. You will shape trusted data, establish accountability, and embed robust controls at scale.

Reporting to the Director of Data Analytics & BI, you will partner with Data Engineering, Analytics, Risk and Compliance to strengthen data quality, metadata, lineage and governance across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience in a relevant discipline.
• Previous leadership of Data Governance, Data Management or Data Quality functions.
• Strong understanding of enterprise data governance and data management frameworks.
• Experience implementing organisation-wide governance, stewardship and accountability models.
• Deep understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage, standards and control frameworks.
• Experience operating within regulated, compliance-led or assurance-driven environments.
• Strong knowledge of audit, risk and regulatory requirements relating to organisational data.
• Experience developing governance models that improve confidence, trust and consistency in data.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively at Executive and senior leadership level.

Responsibilities

• Define, implement and continuously evolve the enterprise Data Management and Governance Framework.
• Lead and develop the Data Management and Governance function to support organisational goals and capability growth.
• Establish clear data ownership, stewardship and accountability models across the organisation.
• Embed governance and data controls into business processes rather than applying them retrospectively.
• Own organisational data standards, critical data assets and consistent definitions for KPIs, regulatory metrics and core operational data.
• Lead the resolution of data conflicts, inconsistencies and governance issues across business areas.
• Develop and maintain enterprise-wide metadata management, data lineage and traceability capabilities.
• Act as a key interface for data-related matters with Risk, Internal Audit, Compliance and external regulators, aligning governance with regulatory requirements and risk appetite.
• Work with Data Engineering and Data Product teams to embed governance, standards and controls into platforms and solutions.
• Champion data governance best practice through training, awareness and stakeholder engagement.
