Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a dedicated Chemistry Tutor to deliver in-person, one-to-one tutoring in Wokingham and surrounding areas. You will tailor lessons to each learner's ability and goals, focusing on confidence, engagement and GCSE preparation where relevant.

Applicants should have Chemistry tutoring experience with secondary-aged learners and a good grasp of the GCSE curriculum. A patient, flexible approach and safeguarding awareness are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching or tutoring Chemistry to secondary-aged children or young people.
  • Good understanding of the Chemistry curriculum.
  • Experience with SEND and/or SEMH needs is desirable.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning.
  • Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one Chemistry tuition to secondary-aged learners.
  • Plan engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activities.
  • Adapt teaching to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of engagement.
  • Support learners with GCSE Chemistry where appropriate.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback.

Job description

Chemistry Tutor – Wokingham

Location: Wokingham and surrounding areas

Phase: Secondary / SEND / SEMH

Working Arrangement: In-person

Quantum Scholars is looking for a supportive, reliable and experienced Chemistry Tutor to work with children and young people across Wokingham and the surrounding areas. This is an in-person tutoring opportunity and is not an online role.

The role involves providing personalised Chemistry support to learners who may benefit from additional help with their learning, confidence and engagement. You will be expected to build positive relationships with learners and adapt your teaching approach to meet their individual abilities, needs and educational goals.

The successful tutor will be able to deliver engaging and accessible Chemistry lessons while providing a patient, flexible and encouraging approach to learning. Experience working with learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs, particularly those accessing Alternative Provision or EOTAS, would be particularly beneficial.

The Role May Involve
  • Delivering one-to-one Chemistry tuition to secondary-aged learners
  • Supporting learners with Chemistry topics appropriate to their age, ability and educational level
  • Planning engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging learning activities
  • Adapting teaching to suit different abilities, learning needs and levels of engagement
  • Supporting learners with developing their understanding of key Chemistry concepts
  • Helping learners prepare for GCSE Chemistry where appropriate
  • Supporting learners with practical, theoretical and problem-solving aspects of Chemistry
  • Helping learners develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards learning
  • Supporting learners who may have struggled to engage within a traditional school environment
  • Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback
  • Building positive, consistent and trusting relationships with learners
  • Working collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals where required
  • Maintaining clear and professional communication
  • Following safeguarding procedures at all times
Essential Requirements
  • Experience teaching or tutoring Chemistry to secondary-aged children or young people
  • A good understanding of the relevant Chemistry curriculum
  • Experience working with learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs is desirable
  • Experience delivering one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable
  • The ability to plan and deliver engaging, personalised learning
  • Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, calm, flexible and supportive approach
  • The ability to adapt teaching to meet individual learning needs
  • A genuine commitment to supporting young people to achieve their potential
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, where required
  • Satisfactory professional references
  • You must have the right to work in the UK
