Job summary

Proman is seeking a Chemical Production Support Operator in Wigan to support safe, efficient production. The role focuses on ensuring materials flow, maintaining housekeeping, and assisting production teams to maximise plant efficiency.

You will operate the filtration press, transfer products, complete records, and support stock management while adhering to safety, quality, and COMAH procedures. The position requires forklift experience and a collaborative, flexible approach.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate the filtration press in line with manufacturing instructions and safe systems of work.
  • Transfer product from holding tank to filtration press and monitor the filtration process.
  • Complete filtration records and report deviations promptly.
  • Assist Production Operators during busy periods to maintain schedules.
  • Ensure correct raw materials and packaging are available to production.
  • Prepare work areas to minimise delays between batches.
  • Safely operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck and move materials between storage and production.
  • Supply production with materials per the manufacturing schedule and return unused materials.
  • Maintain site heating plan to condition materials for manufacture and monitor stock of consumables.
  • Assist with stock checks and inventory accuracy; ensure production areas are ready for campaigns.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards and keep walkways and storage areas clear.
  • Work in compliance with COMAH requirements, site procedures and permit to work; report hazards and participate in improvements.

Chemical Production Support Operator

Wigan

Monday to Thursday 6am - 6pm

£35,000

My client who is a leading manufacturer within their field is seeking an experienced Chemical Process Support Operator to join their team.

The Role:

To support the safe and efficient operation of the Production Department by ensuring raw materials, intermediates and finished products are available where required, maintaining excellent housekeeping standards, operating the filtration press process, and assisting production teams to maximise plant efficiency.

The Production Support Operator will play a key role in reducing downtime by coordinating material movements, managing the heating plan, operating the filtration press, and ensuring production areas remain organised, compliant and ready for manufacture.

Responsibilities:
Production Support
  • - Operate the filtration press in accordance with approved manufacturing instructions and safe systems of work.
  • - Transfer product from holding tank to the filtration press and monitor the filtration process.
  • - Complete filtration records and report any deviations immediately.
  • - Assist Production Operators during busy periods to maintain production schedules.
  • - Ensure production vessels receive the correct raw materials and packaging in a timely manner.
  • - Prepare work areas to minimise delays between batches.
Material Handling
  • - Safely operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck.
  • - Transport raw materials, intermediates and finished goods between storage locations and production.
  • - Supply production with materials in accordance with the manufacturing schedule.
  • - Return unused materials to designated storage locations.
  • - Assist with loading outgoing products where required.
Production Planning Support
  • - Maintain the site heating plan to ensure temperature-sensitive materials are conditioned and available for manufacture.
  • - Monitor stock levels of production consumables including filter media, gaff bags and packaging materials.
  • - Assist Production Supervisors with stock checks and inventory accuracy.
  • - Ensure production areas are prepared for upcoming manufacturing campaigns
Housekeeping & Site Standards
  • - Maintain high housekeeping standards across production, press and yard areas.
  • - Keep all walkways, storage areas and production support areas organised and free from obstruction.
  • - Inspect spill kits, absorbents and emergency equipment, reporting deficiencies.
  • - Support waste segregation and solvent recovery activities.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • - Work in accordance with COMAH requirements, site procedures and Permit to Work systems.
  • - Comply with all Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety procedures.
  • - Wear and maintain the correct PPE at all times.
  • - Report hazards, near misses and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • - Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Ability to follow Manufacturing Instructions

  • Forklift Truck experience
  • Forklift Truck Licence
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing and maintaining PPE

  • Experience working in a chemical/process manufacturing environment
  • Experience working on a COMAH site
  • Understanding of chemical processes
  • Experience troubleshooting production equipment and process issues
  • Good understanding of sampling and product testing
