Job summary

Bupa’s Shockerwick House Care Home in Bath is seeking a Chef Manager to lead the kitchen, design nutritious menus, and mentor the kitchen team to deliver a high-quality dining experience for residents.

You will manage all mandatory paperwork, ensure COSHH/HACCP compliance, and uphold hygiene standards while contributing to a warm, resident-centered dining environment at Shockerwick House.

Qualifications

• Experience in a fresh food kitchen with ability to create nutritious menus.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record mentoring kitchen staff.
• Relevant hygiene certificates and commitment to high hygiene standards.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 40 hours on days with alternative weekends

Salary: £31,495 - £38,759 depending on experience + £2000 annual bonus**

About Shockerwick House

Shockerwick House is an historic building that has been lovingly converted into a care facility, offering nursing and residential care, convalescence, palliative, short stays for a minimum of one week and day care. Shockerwick House is located on the outskirts of Bath’s World Heritage Site. The magnificent 17th century house is set in twelve acres of wheelchair friendly gardens, with an orangery and vegetable plot. The beautifully appointed rooms offer plenty of areas for residents to relax or socialise in. The home has a secure entry and exit system and a 24-hour call system so that residents feel safe and secure. All bedrooms have their own TV and telephone. Special diets are catered for and the home has magnificent, oak-panelled dining rooms. Hot and cold options are included and snacks and drinks are available throughout the day and night. Relaxation sessions, manicures and foot spas are just a few of the many additional benefits of life at Shockerwick House, with arts and crafts and musical afternoons being some of the activities that residents have embraced.

Key Responsibilities

• Using your passion for cooking and experience in a fresh food kitchen to create a varied and nutritional menu in line with the dietary needs and preferences of our residents
• Using your natural leadership skills to train and mentor the kitchen team to deliver an excellent dining experience
• Being innovative in your approach to cooking and maintaining high standards
• Managing all mandatory paperwork including: adhering to COSHH and HACCP guidelines, company policies and procedures, budgets, managing orders and deliveries
• Catering for special events or seasonal activities, such as summer fetes, Christmas parties and birthdays (as required)

Key Skills / Qualifications

• A passion for cooking with previous experience working in a fresh food kitchen and relevant hygiene certificates. You want to create and deliver an excellent dining experience at each meal and make our residents feel at home. You’re a natural leader, open to new ideas with an innovative approach to cooking, always maintaining high standards. You’ll enjoy mentoring and supporting others and you’ll cherish the little moments with our residents, sharing your love of food with them.
