Job summary

Cromwell Hospital is seeking a Chef de Partie to join our hospital kitchen at London SW5. Full-time, permanent role (40 hours per week) with a starting salary of £35,500 plus benefits. You'll lead your kitchen section, maintain high standards, and deliver safe, nutritious meals for patients and staff.

Experience in healthcare catering, HACCP knowledge, and strong teamwork are essential. You will mentor junior staff, manage stock and waste, and support continuous menu improvements in a fast-paced

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or a Demi Chef de Partie looking to progress.
  • Proven ability to manage a kitchen section independently in a fast-paced, high-quality environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, HACCP principles, allergen management, and health & safety requirements.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively under pressure.
  • Strong knowledge of stock management, food storage, portion control, and waste reduction.
  • Skilled in a range of cooking techniques with a keen eye for detail and presentation.
  • Ability to follow recipes, specifications, and contribute to menu development.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours to meet operational requirements.
  • Desirable: Healthcare/hospitality experience.
  • Level 2 Food Safety qualification or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Run your designated kitchen section during preparation and service, maintaining consistency, quality, and presentation standards.
  • Prepare, cook, and present dishes across patient meals, staff dining, hospitality, private dining, meetings, and events.
  • Support the delivery of services across multiple food outlets, adapting to varying service requirements and volumes.
  • Ensure mise en place, portion control, stock rotation, and waste management within your section.
  • Work with senior chefs to develop specials and seasonal menus and drive continuous improvements.
  • Prepare meals meeting dietary, medical, cultural, and lifestyle requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of food presentation and accuracy in portioning.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, hospitality teams, and ward teams for smooth service.
  • Mentor Commis Chefs and Kitchen Porters within your section.
  • Complete opening and closing duties, cleaning schedules, and handovers.
  • Follow food safety, allergen management, infection prevention, and health & safety procedures to ensure patient safety.

How you'll help us make health happen

  • Complete all opening and closing duties, cleaning schedules, and handovers.
  • Follow all food safety, allergen management, infection prevention, and health & safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, colleagues, and visitors.
Key Skills / Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or an experienced Demi Chef de Partie looking to progress.
  • Proven ability to manage a kitchen section independently in a fast-paced, high-quality environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, HACCP principles, allergen management, and health & safety requirements.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively under pressure.

  • Comfortable completing food safety documentation and kitchen records accurately.
  • Flexible approach to working hours to meet operational requirements.
  • Desirable: Experience within healthcare, hospitality, hotel, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Level 2 Food Safety qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience delivering fine dining, hospitality services, or banqueting/events.
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance checks, and kitchen quality standards.
  • Previous experience mentoring or training junior kitchen team members.
