Job summary

Careline Lifestyles is seeking a passionate and experienced chef to join our care-home kitchen in Bearpark, Durham. This part-time, dayshift role focuses on preparing nutritious meals for residents, with attention to dietary needs and wellbeing.

You will work on-site 08:30-17:00, supporting residents and collaborating with care staff to create enjoyable mealtimes. The ideal candidate has at least 2 years in cooking or catering, a Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (desirable), and a full driving

Qualifications

• At least 2 years' cooking or catering experience.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate (desirable) or willingness to obtain.
• Full driving licence and access to own vehicle.
• Good knowledge of food hygiene and safe food preparation.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Friendly, patient and caring approach.
• Professional attitude and pride in their work.
• Genuine desire to make a difference to residents' daily lives.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and cooking healthy, balanced and enjoyable meals.
• Catering for dietary requirements, allergies, medical needs and individual preferences.
• Planning meals and preparing food within agreed budgets.
• Maintaining excellent food hygiene and Health & Safety standards.
• Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and safe.
• Maintaining standards in line with EHO requirements.
• Managing stock, ordering supplies and minimising food waste.
• Using effective portion control and meal planning.
• Working closely with care staff to make mealtimes a positive experience.
• Supporting and guiding junior kitchen staff where required.
