Job summary

The Gloucester Charities Trust is seeking a dedicated Chef to join Magdalen House Residential Home. This role involves 36.75 hours per week on a two-week rota with shifts from 7.30am to 6.30pm, including alternate weekends, to deliver nutritious, appetising meals for residents.

You will work under the supervision of the Chef Manager, ensuring high standards of food safety, menu variety, and catering for special dietary needs while contributing to a positive dining experience for older residents.

Qualifications

• Experienced in catering in a residential home environment.
• Knowledge of Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present meals to a high standard.
• Support Chef Manager with a varied and nutritious menu.
• Cater to dietary requirements and texture-modified diets.
• Ensure food is prepared safely and hygienically.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and comply with food safety regs.
• Complete temperature checks and cleaning schedules.
• Assist with stock control, ordering and minimizing waste.
• Support Kitchen Assistants and wider care home team.
• Contribute to special events and themed menus.

£14.10 per hour plus £1.00 per hour at weekends (pay award pending).

At GCT we believe that good food is at the heart of great care. We are looking for a passionate, skilled, and caring Chef to join our catering team and support the delivery of exceptional dining experiences for older people living in our CQC-regulated residential home, Magdalen House.

Working alongside and reporting to the Chef Manager, you will play a key role in preparing nutritious, appetising meals that support residents’ health, wellbeing, and enjoyment of daily life.

About the role

We have 36.75 hours per week, over a two-week average, contract available for a Chef to work in our beautifully kept residential home. The shifts times are 7.30am – 6.30pm and the successful applicant will be working 7 shifts over two weeks, including alternate weekends.

We do not provide sponsored employment.

Main Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present meals to a consistently high standard..


• Support the Chef Manager in delivering a varied and nutritious menu


• Cater for specialist dietary requirements and texture-modified diets.


• Ensure all food is prepared and served safely and hygienically.


• Maintain kitchen cleanliness and comply with all food safety regulations.


• Complete food temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and other required records.


• Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising food waste.


• Support Kitchen Assistants and work collaboratively within the wider care home team.


• Contribute to special events, themed menus, and celebrations for residents.


• Promote a positive dining experience that enhances residents’ quality of life.

Essential Requirements

• Experienced in a Chef, Cook, or similar catering role.


• Qualified to Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 or willing to obtain.


• Knowledgeable about food safety, allergens, and special dietary requirements.


• Organised, reliable, and able to work effectively under pressure.


• A strong team player with excellent communication skills.


• Passionate about providing excellent food and service for older people.
