Job summary

The Chemical Biology Services Team at EMBL-EBI invites a scientist focused on data curation to ensure the quality of chemical data in ChEBI. You will curate entries, liaise with technical colleagues, and train collaborators.

Reporting to the team leader, you will monitor release processes, improve annotation tools, support the MetaboLights submissions, contribute to grants, and engage with external partners to advance the database.

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in chemistry or biochemistry.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong communication with both scientists and technical staff.
• Ability to critically assess chemical structures and ontology awareness.
• Experience with chemical/biological data curation.

Responsibilities

• Curation of entries into ChEBI, ensuring high quality chemical data.
• Monitor monthly release process and coordinate with technical colleagues.
• Address issues from email notifications related to ChEBI status.
• Collaborate with software teams to improve annotation tools and data access.
• Support the MetaboLights submissions process.
• Contribute to grant applications.
• Provide training and user support.
• Engage with collaborators (Rhea, GO, IEDB) on mutual interests.
• Present at conferences and workshops.
• Publish updates describing ChEBI changes.
