Job summary

YMCA Bournemouth is seeking a Chatterbox Project Worker to join our Youth Department and help empower young people aged 11–25, including those with disabilities, by supporting their ideas and creating meaningful youth opportunities.

You will work Tuesday–Wednesday, 15 hours per week, with a focus on inclusive practice, safeguarding, and developing young people’s confidence through youth-led activities and collaborative projects.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with young people, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practices.

Job description

Working Hours: 15 Hours per week Tuesday–Wednesday (excluding bank holidays)

Salary: £12.71 per hour

About the Position:

We are looking for a Chatterbox Project Worker to join our team and contribute to the delivery of our youth services.

As part of the Chatterbox Project Worker role, you will work within the Youth Department, ensuring young people are supported, empowered, and provided with opportunities to engage and develop.

This role will involve:

  • Empowering young people to develop their own youth projects.
  • Providing youth opportunities.

Skills and competencies:

  • Understanding of the developmental, emotional, social, and educational issues affecting young people.
  • Understanding of youth-led and youth-action models.
  • Good communication (written, verbal, and presentational) skills.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent ICT skills, including Office 365 and Zoom.

Qualifications and experience:

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • Experience of working with children and young people with disabilities aged 11–25.

Desirable qualifications and experience:

  • Level 3 recognised qualification in Youth, Citizenship, Community, Disability Work, or equivalent, or working towards achieving it.
  • GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.
  • Level 3 qualification in Safeguarding Children and Young People.

Additional information:

  • The role has a statutory, occupational requirement to ensure the safety and welfare of all children, young people and adults at risk that they may come across using our services. The post holder will take responsibility for ensuring safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk as a priority and follow both YMCA Bournemouth safeguarding policy and BCP Safeguarding Children Partnership and Dorset Safeguarding Children Partnership statutory guidance.
  • Employment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work checks and a Disclosure and Barring Service check. If the role involves regulated activity with children or adults at risk, your employment will be subject to an Enhanced level DBS check prior to commencement date. All other applicable roles will be subject to a Basic level DBS check prior to commencement date.
