Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Belfast seeks a Chartered/Near Chartered Engineer to join the Bridges and Civils team within Transportation. You will shape high-quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals, maintenance and assessments.

Collaborate with national and international design teams, lead the production of design documentation and guide junior staff, while engaging with clients and stakeholders to deliver sustainable, compliant solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Working towards professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of ICE, Engineers Ireland or IStructE.
• Experience with key clients and major transportation projects.
• Good understanding of Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail/Translink standards.
• Experience in bridge design, maintenance and assessment.
• Proficiency with design software such as LUSAS, MIDAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.

As a Chartered/Near Chartered Engineer in our Bridges and Civils team (Belfast) within our Transportation business, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation. We work on a diverse range of significant and challenging projects across the UK and Ireland, including the A4 Enniskillen By-Pass, Portadown - Londonderry Route Assessment, the Sydenham Greenway as well as the Translink Civil Engineering Professional Services Contract. The team also supports transportation and non-transportation civil engineering and structures projects throughout the UK and internationally such as the N28 Cork to Ringaskiddy and Rolls Royce Small Modular Reactor programme, as well as delivering a range of local authority projects for Councils across the Northern Ireland and Scotland. You’ll take pride in creating high-quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals, maintenance, and assessments. Your role

• Take pride in developing high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.

• Collaborate with both national and international design teams, using your expertise and leadership to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.

• Manage the production of, and review, high-quality design documentation including sketches, drawings, 3D BIM deliverables, analysis models, calculations, reports and specifications.

• Able to understand a client’s problem and bring the different capabilities of AtkinsRéalis together to develop a solution.

• Independently carry out technical work and provide guidance to junior staff members.

• Lead teams in the design, assessment, and maintenance of structural projects, and providing structures related input on multi-disciplinary projects.

• Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option.

• Engage with and manage internal and external stakeholders.

• Keep abreast of state-of-the-art methods and developments in area of specialisation.

About you

• A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.

• Achieved or working towards professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE, Engineers Ireland or IStructE.

• Experience of working with key clients such as Department for Infrastructure, Translink, local authorities, major contractors and developers.

• Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail/Translink standards).

• Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment.

• Experience of structural analysis software packages such as LUSAS, MIDAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.

• Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of structures related projects together with a track record of innovation in design and management of highway structures.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.
