AtkinsRéalis in Glasgow is seeking an Assistant Engineer in Bridges and Civils to help shape high-quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals, maintenance and assessments.

You will collaborate with national and international design teams, manage production of design docs, and engage stakeholders while applying Eurocodes and related standards. This role offers a hybrid working model and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Working towards CEng/IEng and membership of ICE/IStructE.
  • Experience with Transport Scotland, Network Rail, local authorities and major contractors.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail/Translink standards.
  • Experience with bridge design, maintenance and assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance and assessments.
  • Collaborate with national and international design teams to create positive, sustainable impacts.
  • Manage production of design documentation including sketches, drawings, 3D BIM deliverables, analyses, calculations and specifications.
  • Able to understand client problems and bring AtkinsRéalis capabilities together to develop solutions.
  • Apply analytical methods to derive and compare engineering options and recommend the best solution.
  • Engage with and manage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on state-of-the-art methods and developments in their area of specialization.

As an Assistant Engineer in our Bridges and Civils team (Glasgow) within our Transportation business, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation. We work on a diverse range of significant and challenging projects across the UK and Ireland, including the multiple sections of the A9 Dualling, Network Rail's CP7 Maintenance Programme, Dundee Station and Depot as well as the N28 Cork to Ringaskiddy (Ireland). The team also supports non-transportation civil engineering and structures projects throughout the UK and internationally such as Rolls Royce Small Modular Reactor programme, as well as delivering a range of local authority projects for Councils across the Scotland and Northern Ireland. You'll take pride in creating high-quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals, maintenance, and assessments. Your role
  • Take pride in developing high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.

  • Collaborate with both national and international design teams, using your expertise and leadership to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.

  • Manage the production of, and review, high-quality design documentation including sketches, drawings, 3D BIM deliverables, analysis models, calculations, reports and specifications.

  • Able to understand a client's problem and bring the different capabilities of AtkinsRéalis together to develop a solution.

  • Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option.

  • Engage with and manage internal and external stakeholders.

  • Keep abreast of state-of-the‑art methods and developments in area of specialisation.

About you
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Working towards professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE, Engineers Ireland or IStructE.

  • Experience of working with key clients such as Transport Scotland, Network Rail, local authorities and major contractors and developers.

  • Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail/Translink standards).

  • Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment.

  • Experience of structural analysis software packages such as LUSAS, MIDAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.
