Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a senior registered nurse who is keen to enhance and develop their management, clinical skills and support the senior nursing team coordinate patients for cataract surgery within NHS Fife and other health boards in Scotland as we progress into a centre of excellence for Cataract surgery.

The Ophthalmology department in NHS Fife is looking for a Charge Nurse to join our team working across sites within NHS Fife. Within Ophthalmology we have the Cataract unit Queen Margaret hospital, Outpatients Queen Margaret Hospital, Outpatients Victoria hospital with outlying clinics in Randolph Wemyss hospital and Adamson hospital.

Main duties of the role
• The post holder will be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards and professional practice as set by the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and relevant professional guidelines.
• They will maintain clinical oversight of the cataract unit and outpatient areas and take responsibility for ensuring the coordination and direct provision of high standard of holistic, patient centred care by supporting junior nursing staff to accurately assess nursing care and health
• To encourage and support the ongoing Professional Development of all members of the departmental team.
• To act as a visible clinical nurse leader and promote team work within a multi-professional environment. Demonstrate critical analysis and decision making skills when undertaking, leading and or supervising the delivery of consistent high quality evidence based care.
• Coordinate the patient journey for cataract surgery from NHS Fife and other health boards within Scotland.
• This post would suit someone with specialist ophthalmic skills to support junior staff in the clinical setting.
• Proven leadership skills would be an advantage.
• Educated to degree level or equivalent.
• At minimum relevant post registration experience working within a relevant clinical setting.
• Literate in current IT techniques
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Ophthalmic skills including Biometry equipment, visual acuity, OCT and icare.
