Nationwide is seeking an experienced change professional to sit at the crossroads between Group Customer & Communications (GCC) and change functions across the Society. You will understand the central change landscape, navigate demand, and help shape business cases for cross-portfolio initiatives.
You will act as an advocate for GCC, connecting teams, aligning portfolios, and ensuring delivery routes are clear as Nationwide implements hybrid working from Swindon, London or Bournemouth offices.
As an experienced change professional, you’ll provide a central point of contact between Group Customer & Communications (GCC) and change functions in the broader Society – COO, Retail Transformation, Mortgage Change and others, making it easier for GCC colleagues to access the right change capability, portfolios and delivery routes.
You’ll build a deep understanding of the central change landscape, its people, processes, governance, backlogs and investment routes, using this knowledge to navigate change demand through the organisation and connect it with the right teams.
Acting as an advocate and guide for GCC’s change requirements, the role helps shape demand so that it is clearly understood, appropriately positioned and able to progress through the relevant portfolio and business case processes, particularly where change spans multiple portfolios or organisational boundaries.
This role sits within the Group Customer & Communications Function. The function’s purpose is to understand our customers and design meaningful engagement opportunities, together with building compelling experiences and communications. Customer strategy, marketing, brand, website and legal, regulatory & mandatory communications all sit within GCC, alongside a focus on communities with our social impact agenda.
Working in GCC, you’ll be part of a Change Team who ensure programme deliverables are aligned with broader integration and Society plans; lead milestones through key stages, mobilise resource and unify project teams behind a common goal, outcome and shared programme plan. This includes integration change activity that’s owned by GCC to bring together the Nationwide and Virgin Money brands and customers.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job, you'll spend at least two days per week, or if part-time, you'll spend 40% of your working time, based at our Swindon, London or Bournemouth office. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
Nationwide is committed to the redeployment of our employees impacted by change, as such applications for redeployment candidates will be prioritised in this recruitment process.
If you’re a colleague on long-term absence (for example, on parental leave) or a temporary worker, please use your personal email address to submit an application.

Banking - but fairer, more rewarding, and for the good of society
You’ll be the front door between GCC and the organisation’s central change capability, helping colleagues navigate what can sometimes be a complex landscape. A typical day could involve understanding a new change requirement, working out which portfolio or capability needs to be involved, introducing the right people and helping GCC shape its business case so that it can progress effectively.
You’ll build a detailed understanding of how Society change teams work - the portfolios, people, planning cycles, backlogs, governance and investment routes - and use that knowledge to make life easier for others. This will be particularly important for changes that cut across multiple portfolios, where there isn’t an obvious single route to delivery and someone needs to bring the right teams together.
You’ll also keep sight of demand once it has entered those central routes, helping resolve unclear ownership or stalled activity and bringing useful intelligence back into our function. Over time, you’ll become a trusted connector between the two areas: someone who understands both what our teams need and how best to navigate the organisation to make it happen.
To be successful in this role, as a minimum, you will need:
Strong experience operating within a large, complex change or transformation environment, with a good understanding of how enterprise change portfolios, delivery capabilities and governance structures operate
Demonstrable experience navigating change demand through complex organisational structures, connecting business requirements with appropriate portfolios, programmes, technology or change delivery teams
Strong understanding of change demand and intake processes for both technical and non-technical change, including portfolio backlogs, prioritisation, planning cycles and the progression of demand from initial requirement through to delivery consideration
Practical knowledge of business case and investment processes, with experience helping to shape requirements and supporting sponsors through governance and funding routes
Experience working with cross-portfolio or cross-functional change, where successful progression requires coordination across multiple teams, capabilities or organisational boundaries
Ability to rapidly build and maintain strong organisational knowledge and networks, understanding both formal processes and the practical routes required to progress work effectively
Strong ability to shape ambiguous or early-stage change requirements, helping stakeholders clearly articulate the problem to be solved, intended outcomes, scope and rationale before engaging delivery teams
Experience acting as an effective bridge between business and change or delivery functions, with the ability to understand the priorities and language of both and facilitate productive engagement between them
