Job summary

Intertek in Peterborough is seeking a Certification Engineer to coordinate our product certification activities and support the certification process for ASTA schemes. You will review technical documentation, make sound engineering judgements and manage multiple projects while collaborating with colleagues and clients.

The role covers conducting certification activities, preparing test programmes, creating and checking certificates and technical reports.

Qualifications

• Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience in testing and/or certification of electrical products.
• Experience with IEC 61439 switchgear and control gear standards.
• Ability to make sound engineering judgements based on experience.
• Ability to scrutinise and compare technical documents.
• Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate product certification activities for all schemes.
• Prepare, review and authorize test programmes.
• Create and check certificates and technical reports.
• Assess laboratories to ISO 17025 and Intertek requirements.
• Witness testing activities for ASTA schemes.
• Process enquiries, quotations and orders for type testing and certification.
• Monitor project status and liaise with colleagues across offices.
• Support sales teams with technical input during the sales process.
• Liaise with clients and develop professional relationships.
• Undertake projects primarily for IEC 61439 standards.

Required skills and experience

• Experience with switchgear and control gear products and standards (IEC 61439 series).
• Ability to make sound engineering judgements based on relevant professional experience.

About the opportunity

As the Certification Engineer you will help coordinate the company's product certification activities and take an active role in the product certification process for our ASTA certification schemes.

Key activities

• Conducting certification activities (Recommendation and Certification Decision) for all schemes.
• Preparation, review and authorisation of test programmes.
• Creation and checking of certificates and technical reports.
• Assessment of laboratories to ISO 17025 and Intertek Requirements.
• Witnessing of testing activities undertaken as part of the ASTA schemes.
• Processing and management of enquiries, quotations and orders for type testing and certification.
• Regular monitoring of project status including discussions with colleagues in other offices.
• Supporting of sales teams to progress the technical aspects of the sales process.
• Liaising with clients, including the development of professional relationships and providing technical support.
• Undertaking project work primarily for products within the IEC 61439 series of standards.
