Job summary

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust in the Tees Valley region is seeking a senior biomedical scientist to lead pathology across sections, ensuring timely, accurate results and compliance with UKAS, MHRA and NHS guidelines.

The post holder will deputise for the Service Manager, oversee complex test repertoires, staff rotas, and continuous service improvement while maintaining high standards of patient care and professional leadership.

Qualifications

• FIBMS and/or MSc and/or Chartered Scientist in an appropriate discipline; IBMS accredited degree.
• Attendance at the leadership and development programme; Management qualification at Masters level or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Process pathology specimens and provide technically accurate results.
• Interpret patients' results to enable diagnostic and treatment decisions.
• Lead a section or department in the laboratory to support efficient service provision.
• Provide management support to the Service Manager and Clinical Lead to ensure effective use of resources.
• Act as professional lead for technical aspects of an efficient and timely analytical service.
