Job summary

Sevenoaks District Council is seeking a CCTV Operator to join the CCTV Control Room. The role involves monitoring screens, operating equipment and radios, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and patrol via CCTV view screens.
  • Operate all equipment, cameras and radios in the control room.
  • Handle out-of-hours emergency calls and implement 24-hour call-out arrangements when required.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently, especially on police radio channels, under high pressure.
  • Assess emergencies, make timely decisions and maintain calm and professionalism.

CCTV Operator

£30,269 to £32,790

A generous annual leave allowance of 25 days (plus an additional 5 days depending on having Continuous Local Government Service). Plus 7 BH’s totally at least 30 days leave per year. All Annual leave is based on hours of 37hrs a week/74 hrs a fortnight shift pattern. The shift pattern includes weekends, nights, and Bank Holidays. The CCTV Control Room is open 365 days a year.

The Successful Applicant:

We are looking for a CCTV Operator to work in the Sevenoaks District Council's CCTV Control Room. The individual must be suitably qualified and experienced. The role will involve monitoring and proactive patrol via view screens. The individual will be required to operate all the equipment, cameras, radios and to comply with relevant legislation, CCTV code of practice all operational control room procedures at all times, on a rotating 7 days a week shift pattern including, nights, weekends & bank holidays including Christmas.

The CCTV control room receives out-of-hours emergency calls you will be responsible for ensuring these calls are dealt with effectively and implement the Council’s 24-hour emergency call out arrangements when required.

Applicants must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and confidently, particularly over busy police radio channels where messages must be transmitted and understood accurately in high-pressure situations. They must be able to listen effectively, comprehend information quickly, and provide clear, precise updates and instructions when responding to incidents.

The successful candidate must be capable of understanding, assessing, and responding promptly to emergency situations, whilst remaining calm, professional, and focused under pressure. They must demonstrate resilience when dealing with emergencies, critical incidents, serious cases, and safeguarding concerns. The role requires sound judgement, the ability to make timely decisions, prioritise actions appropriately, and work efficiently in a fast-paced and demanding operational environment where effective communication is critical to public and officer safety.

Appointment is subject to completion of a Criminal Records Bureau and police checks before commencement of employment.
