Job summary

Cooper Green Mercy in Birmingham is seeking a qualified healthcare assistant to provide nursing support and direct patient care as ordered by a provider.

Responsibilities include taking vitals, assisting with procedures, documenting in the EHR, and ensuring a safe, organized environment. On-site role with potential for cross-department coverage; CCMA and CPR/BLS certifications are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with CCMA certification required.
• Two years of clinical experience preferred; work experience may NOT substitute for education/certification.
• Current CPR/BLS certification via recognized bodies.

Responsibilities

• Assists in providing direct and indirect nursing care; stocks and maintains exam rooms.
• Sets up exam rooms for procedures as ordered; records vitals and performs EKGs / tests.
• Interviews patients to obtain health history and documents in the EHR.
• Administers medications as ordered by providers.
• Communicates with patients and families; protects confidentiality and rights.
• Maintains a safe environment; adheres to safety regulations.
• May mentor peers and provide student-learning experiences.
• Operates department equipment as required.
• Handles patient inquiries and responds to messages within policy.
• Provides coverage across departments and clinic locations as needed.
