Job summary

NHS Ayrshire and Arran is seeking a Catering Assistant for University Hospital Ayr, a permanent, part-time role providing patient meals, service delivery, and kitchen support. You will help with food prep, service, and cleaning in a busy kitchen, focusing on therapeutic diets under IDDSI guidelines.

A current Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable; full training will be provided if needed. Contact Wendy Bone for details on the post and shifts.

Qualifications

You will work as part of a busy team and should have good communication skills, a flexible approach, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
Previous experience in a catering or food service setting would be advantageous, although full training will be provided.
Knowledge of IDDSI Framework and an understanding of therapeutic diets would be beneficial, particularly regarding texture‑modified foods and fluids.
A current Food Hygiene Certificate is desirable; however, training can be provided within the first three months.

Responsibilities

Assist with food preparation, meal service, distribution, wash‑up duties, and cleaning activities for patients, staff, visitors, and hospitality functions.
Based within a busy production kitchen environment, with duties focused on assisting in preparation and delivery of therapeutic diets.
Support the Diet Cook in meeting patient meal requirements in accordance with IDDSI Framework and ensure patient safety.
