Job summary

Powys County Council is seeking a Catering Assistant to assist with the preparation, cooking, serving or delivering of meals in council premises and at off-site locations. You will help manage stock, assist with menu costing and ensure compliance with Welsh Government nutrition guidelines and Food Safety Act.

The role requires numeracy and literacy skills, IT competence, and the ability to work to deadlines.

Qualifications

• Numeracy and literacy essential.
• Good IT skills and ability to use e-mail.
• Confidentiality and data handling awareness.
• Welsh language skills preferred for oral/written tasks.
• Ability to respond to peaks in workload and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to demonstrate tasks to staff and participate in on‑the‑job training.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, cooking, serving and delivery of meals.
• Assist with stock control, storage, preparation and portioning.
• Assist with menu costing and budget management.
• Ensure compliance with Food Safety Act and Welsh nutrition standards.
• Maintain records and contribute to staffing rotas.
• Demonstrate tasks to staff and provide on‑the‑job training.
