Job summary

South West Norse is recruiting for a Catering Assistant to support Lucombe House Cafe in delivering meals and beverages to customers. You will assist with food prep, service, and till operation while upholding high cleanliness standards in a busy café environment.

We welcome individuals with basic food hygiene knowledge and strong communication skills. Training will be provided; a friendly, punctual, and presentable approach is essential, with flexibility for shifts and events.

Qualifications

• Basic food hygiene knowledge (Level 1) or willingness to obtain.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
• Reliable, punctual and well-presented.
• Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours.
• Barista experience or knowledge of coffee machine operation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and service of food and drink, including hot and cold meals, snacks, and beverages.
• Operate tills and handle customer payments in line with council financial procedures.
• Ensure a high standard of cleanliness in all areas of the café, including kitchen, counters, and dining areas.
• Wash up and clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces.
• Restock supplies and assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
• Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and council policies and procedures at all times.
• Provide excellent customer service in a polite and helpful manner to all customers, including members of the public, staff, and visitors.
• Work flexibly to support the needs of the café, including cover for absences, special events, or busy periods.
• Previous catering experience or willingness to be trained in your new role.
• Friendly and polite customer service.
• Capable of working to deadlines in a busy environment.
• Working within a team.
