Job summary

Carmarthenshire County Council is hiring a Catering Assistant in Whitland. You will assist the kitchen team to prepare nutritious meals, set up and clear away dining areas, and help maintain high hygiene and safety standards throughout shifts.

The role demands good communication and a proactive, team-oriented approach. Welsh language basics are required, with training support available.

Qualifications

• Experience in catering or food service is helpful but not required.
• Knowledge of basic food safety appreciated but training will be given.
• Good communication and people skills are essential.
• Ability to work on your own and as part of a team is needed.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills are valued.
• Flexibility to assist with other catering duties.
• DBS check required for this role.
• Welsh language level – conversational (Level 2) is expected.

Job description

Working for us, you will have the opportunity to work in a busy and exciting environment. You will be responsible for assisting our Cook in preparing nutritious and appetising meals whilst ensuring compliance with all aspects of Food Hygiene and Health and Safety. Other duties will include the setting up and clearing away of tables and general cleaning duties.

• The ability to build good relationships with adults and children based on mutual respect.
• Knowledge of basic food safety. This would be an advantage, but not essential as full training will be given.
• Good communication and people skills
• The ability to work on their own and as part of a team.
• A positive attitude and the willingness to learn new skills.
• Flexibility and the willingness to assist with other catering duties.
• An Enhanced with Barred List Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be requested for this job. It is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children or adults at risk.
• Welsh language level - verbal Level 2 - You will need a basic level of conversational Welsh. Reasonable support can be provided on appointment to reach this level.
