Job summary

King Edward VI Community College in Totnes is seeking a Catering Assistant to join the kitchen team on a term-time basis. The role is 20 hours per week across 38 weeks, with shifts 10am–2:30pm and a 30-minute break, paid at £13.28 per hour.

You will prepare and cook meals, handle cold and hot food, serve at the counter or tills, and assist with deliveries and stock. Previous catering experience is essential and training will be provided.

This role is based at King Edward VI Community College, a thriving secondary school based in Totnes, South Devon for which we are seeking an enthusiastic Catering Assistant to work as part of a kitchen team.

What will you be doing

• You will be preparing and cooking meals, working on both cold deli and hot food preparation and service, preparing food to a standard set menu.
• Your customer centric approach will ensure that the customer experience is excellent, food service and presentation is of a high standard and that all students are catered for and treated with respect.
• You will from time to time be serving at the food counter or operating the tills.
• You will assist with receiving deliveries from suppliers, checking and stocking the dry and cold stores.
• You will assist with record keeping and the maintenance of kitchen records.
• Training and support will be provided but experience of working in a catering role is essential.
