Job summary

Gladstone Primary Academy in Peterborough is seeking a Catering Assistant for a fixed-term contract to July 2027, working 11.25 hours per week during term time. You will serve lunches, wash up, clear the dining hall and support kitchen staff while maintaining high food hygiene standards.

You should have basic knowledge of food safety, enjoy working with children, and be reliable and a team player in a friendly catering team that sources local produce and aims to reduce waste. Start date ASAP.

Working pattern: 11.30 am - 1.45pm, Monday to Friday

Salary: Pathway 1, £6,498 per annum (FTE £25,614)

Your role:

As a Catering Assistant at Gladstone Primary Academy, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a high level of food preparation and service. You will provide courteous and efficient service to children, staff, and visitors, maintaining cleanliness and adhering to food hygiene and health & safety standards. Your responsibilities will include washing up, serving lunches, and clearing the dining hall after service. You will also assist the kitchen staff with cleaning duties and promote a welcoming atmosphere within the department.

You already have a basic knowledge of food safety and hygiene, and an understanding of health and safety practices. Experience in a catering environment is essential and working with children is desirable. You should be able to work both independently and as part of a team, building positive relationships with young children, staff, and other adults within the school. A commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding policies is essential.
