Job summary

Five Acres High School is seeking a dedicated Catering Assistant to help prepare and serve nutritious meals and maintain high hygiene standards. You will support the kitchen’s smooth operation, provide a welcoming service to pupils and staff, and help promote healthy eating habits within the school.

The role requires GCSE level education or equivalent, good numeracy and literacy, and a willingness to work flexible hours including some evenings for on-site events. Training will be provided.

At Five Acres High School, we are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Catering Assistant to help provide nutritious, high quality meals in a welcoming environment where pupils can enjoy healthy food and develop positive eating habits.

About the Role

As a Catering Assistant you will help prepare and serve nutritious meals while maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety standards. You will support the smooth running of the kitchen, provide a welcoming service to pupils and staff, and help create a positive dining experience that encourages healthy eating habits.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys working as part of a team, takes pride in delivering excellent customer service and is passionate about providing high quality school meals in a friendly and supportive environment.

Key aspects of the role include

  • General duties in the kitchen, canteen, the hub and the 10 block
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of school meals.
  • Assist with the service presentation of food and beverages. This will include use of the till system (full training will be provided)
  • Attend training courses and meetings as required.
  • Ensure hygiene and health and safety standards are met at all times.
  • Responsible for securing the kitchen at the end of shift
  • Assist with the cleaning of kitchen equipment and catering areas.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
  • A good relevant education to GCSE Level or equivalent
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • A food hygiene qualification (training will be arranged if required)
  • Experience of working in a busy school kitchen is desirable but not essential
  • Experience of taking direction whilst under pressure
  • Experience of working with stock levels
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety guidelines
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Excellent communicator
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including some evening work if required (notice will be given) to support on site events.
  • Commitment to working within the schools safeguarding policy
  • High levels of professional integrity, energy and enthusiasm
  • Commitment to high standards and expectations
  • An ability to adapt to changes
