Job summary

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is seeking a catering assistant to join the Facilities (Hotel Services) team. The role covers preparing and regenerating food, serving meals and drinks on wards and in the dining room, and cleaning catering areas to schedule.

You will work as part of ward-based or Main Kitchen teams, with occasional call-outs outside hours during incidents or adverse weather; familiarity with food safety laws is expected.

Qualifications

• General education to Level 2 English and Maths
• Experience in catering preferred
• Knowledge of food safety practices
• Ability to work in a team and follow policies

Job description

This catering assistant post sits within the Facilities (Hotel Services) team at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. The work centres on preparing and regenerating food, serving meals and drinks on wards and in the dining room, and cleaning catering areas to schedule. The post is based either in a ward-based catering team or the Main Kitchen team, with possible call-outs outside normal hours during a major incident or adverse weather. Fit depends on previous catering experience and working knowledge of food safety law.

What the job involves

• Prepare food and beverages in line with Health Board policy and legislation
• Assist nursing staff with meal service at ward level
• Serve beverages on wards according to patient requests
• Serve staff and customers in the dining room with a professional, polite service
• Operate the cash register accurately
• Clean all catering areas to daily and weekly schedules
• Help maintain high service standards, team working and open communication, supporting the Facilities Unit's EFQMS commitment
• Be called in outside normal hours to support Facilities contingency actions during a major incident or adverse weather

What’s required

Qualifications

• Good standard of general education, such as key skills level 2 in English and Mathematics or equivalent

Experience

• Previous experience in a catering role

Skills & knowledge

• Basic knowledge of catering practices
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety, including Food Safety Act 1990, Food Hygiene (Wales) Legislation 2006, COSHH and HACCP
• Knowledge of food handling policies and proceduresAbility to work effectively as part of a team

Nice to have

• Welsh language skills in speaking and listening at Level 3 or above
