Job summary

Mitie is hiring a Catering Assistant at King George Hospital, Ilford, Greater London. This part‑time role (37.5 hours weekly) pays £28,939.37 per year and focuses on preparing dining areas, serving meals, and maintaining cleanliness in line with health and safety standards.

The successful candidate will have basic Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certificates or be willing to obtain them, strong numeracy and communication skills, and a passion for customer service.

• Communicate effectively with customers, managers, and colleagues to deliver excellent service.

Role Responsibilities:

• Prepare and maintain dining and service areas, including furniture, trolleys, and cleaning equipment.
• Serve food and drink in correct portions and wash dishes, cutlery, and catering equipment.
• Clean all catering areas daily and follow health and safety standards.
• Handle cash collection, banking, and maintain records and procedures.
• Communicate effectively with customers, managers, and colleagues to deliver excellent service.

• Previous catering experience as a barista is desirable.
• Basic Food Hygiene and Health & Safety certificates (training provided if not held).
• Adequate numeracy, literacy, and communication skills.
• Passion for customer service and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Adaptable, detail-oriented, and confident with strong organisational and time management skills.
