Job summary

Milk Education in Bolton is seeking a Catering Assistant to join a busy school on a temporary, permanent or temp-to-perm basis from September. You will work as part of a welcoming catering team, helping deliver healthy meals and supporting pupils and staff.

The role suits someone reliable with Level 2 Food Safety, who enjoys teamwork and maintaining high standards in a busy school kitchen. DBS development may be required; Milk Education offers registration support and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene qualification is essential.
  • Previous experience in catering, kitchen or food service is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen awareness.
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and serving of meals to pupils and staff.
  • Follow food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen and dining area.
  • Support the wider catering team with day-to-day kitchen duties.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage and serving of food per requirements.
  • Provide friendly and professional service to pupils and staff.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with the preparation and serving of meals to pupils and staff
  • Following food safety, hygiene and allergen procedures at all times
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised kitchen and dining area
  • Supporting the wider catering team with day-to-day kitchen duties
  • Ensuring food is handled, stored and served safely in line with school and statutory requirements
  • Providing friendly and professional service to pupils and staff
Requirements or Skills:
  • Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene qualification – essential
  • Previous experience working in a catering, kitchen or food service environment is desirable
  • Good understanding of food hygiene, health and safety and allergen awarenessReliable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment and following instructions from senior catering staff
  • A positive attitude and a genuine commitment to maintaining high standards
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one through Milk Education

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
