Job summary

Magellan Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Category Buyer at our Llay, Wrexham site to support procurement activities across the P2P process. You will process requisitions, establish supplier onboarding, and assist category leads in implementing sourcing strategies.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years of procurement experience, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to build effective internal stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

• University degree in Business Administration or Engineering is required.
• 1–2 years procurement experience in a customer-facing role is preferred.
• Experience with supplier relationship management and cost saving initiatives is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Undertake purchasing responsibilities to support P2P processes and supplier onboarding.
• Lead RFQs and tenders, negotiate contracts for allocated projects.
• Monitor supplier performance and participate in supplier reviews and risk assessments.
• Develop supplier relationships and support on-site category strategies.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure lowest total cost of acquisition.

Magellan Aerospace, Llay Wrexham has an exciting opportunity for a Category Buyer.

• Full Time Permanent Position
• 39 hours per week.
• Job location: Llay, Wrexham, LL12 0PB.
• Unionised site – works in partnership with Unite the Union.

The Category buyer is responsible for supporting the category leads with live projects and any on-site support that is required for sourcing. The candidate will also be working with key internal stakeholders to develop and help deploy Category Strategies.

Essential Responsibilities

• Undertake all purchasing responsibilities to support the P2P (Purchase to Pay) process. This includes processing purchase requisitions into purchase orders and new supplier applications for individual sites and supporting invoice queries (when the Procurement team's responsibility)
• Managing, negotiating and contracting RFQs and tenders for specific allocated projects
• Lead/attend daily meetings, update respective KPIs and monitor supplier performance
• Develop strong supplier relationships
• Support supplier business reviews, capacity assessments and risk reviews
• Identify & record cost saving opportunities
• Achieve the lowest total cost of acquisition for goods and services taking into account quality, cost, delivery & service requirements
• Working with Category Leads and Managers to manage Operational requirements to implement commodity strategies
• Set up and maintain correct sourcing/purchasing parameters in the ERP system
• Lead the activity in expediting / late deliveries
• Support internal and external audits

Position Requirements

Academic:

• University degree in Business Administration, Engineering or similar
• Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply desired or working towards the qualification

Experience:

• 1- 2 years Procurement experience or equivalent in a customer-facing role
