Job description

Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Catastrophe Portfolio Manager in our Central Pricing and Analytics team within our Insurance business.

Sompo is seeking a skilled Catastrophe Portfolio Manager in the London office, supporting our Brazil and Turkish high-volume, small line size business portfolios. The position will report to the Head of Catastrophe Modelling, based in London. This role will focus on building out portfolio analytics and supporting pricing actuaries for catastrophe management, utilizing next-generation cat models through strategic management, workflow improvements, and collaboration with local teams to support growth and meet ambitious targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Portfolio Management: Manage and oversee high-volume, small line size portfolios across Brazil and Turkey, ensuring alignment with Sompo’s overall business objectives.
  • Strategic Support: Collaborate closely with local teams, providing guidance and support in portfolio management strategies tailored to regional needs.
  • Pricing Workflow Improvement: Analyze and refine workflows to address inefficiencies and optimize accuracy for high-volume transactions.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Transition Responsibilities: Transition current provider responsibilities to the Sompo Catastrophe Modelling team smoothly.
  • Local Market Education: Educate and develop best practices in local markets.
  • Alignment with Sompo’s Capabilities: Ensure projects and practices align with Sompo's strategic goals.
  • Portfolio Planning & Analytics Support: Assist local teams with PML planning, enhance portfolio reporting through tailored analysis, and support development and refinement of pricing models.
  • Event & Model Management: Manage event response activities outside the global process and conduct light-touch model validation to support existing responsibilities.
What You’ll Bring
  • Portfolio Management Expertise: Deep knowledge of catastrophe portfolio management, especially for high-volume, small line size portfolios.
  • Technical and Analytical Skills: Proficiency in managing complex data, interpreting analytics, and guiding market education.
  • Strategic Development: Experience in developing and implementing best practices for portfolio management.
  • Market Collaboration: Ability to work with local and regional teams, providing guidance and education.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in catastrophe modelling tools (primarily RMS), SQL, and advanced Excel skills for data analysis. Strong communication skills are essential.
