Job summary

Atrium is a Lloyd’s insurer with a long-standing history, seeking a Catastrophe Analyst to join the Exposure Management team. The role supports catastrophe risk analysis and regulatory reporting to enable effective portfolio management across underwriting and reinsurance.

Working with IT and underwriting colleagues, you will develop analytics, automate workflows, and improve aggregation. The role requires SQL experience, numeracy, and a solid grounding in geography or related fields.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable programming aptitude; SQL is most useful.
  • Numeracy required for statistics production and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of geography, natural science or engineering; bachelor’s degree not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Exposure Management and underwriting through modelling, post-bind analysis, and portfolio reviews.
  • Use vendor catastrophe models to analyse risk at account, portfolio, and syndicate levels, validating outputs for stakeholders.
  • Investigate portfolio movements, accumulations, and concentrations of risk across perils.
  • Produce and validate analytics to support reinsurance purchasing and programme optimisation.
  • Lead or participate in event response for significant catastrophe events.
  • Support the production of Exposure Management MI and regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure data quality through daily/weekly/monthly aggregation reviews with underwriting teams.

Role

This is a great opportunity for a Catastrophe Analyst to join our Exposure Management team, supporting the delivery of catastrophe risk analysis and regulatory reporting to enable effective portfolio management across our underwriting and reinsurance teams.

Description
The role is intended to support all aspects of Exposure Management.
Catastrophe Risk Analysis & Business Support
  • Provide support to Exposure Management and underwriting teams through modelling, post‑bind analysis, and portfolio reviews.
  • Use vendor catastrophe models to analyse risk at account, portfolio, and syndicate level, validating outputs and explaining results to stakeholders.
  • Investigate portfolio movements, accumulations, and concentrations of risk across all relevant perils.
  • Produce and validate analytics to support reinsurance purchasing and programme optimisation.
  • Lead or actively participate in event response for significant catastrophe events.
Exposure Management, MI & Regulatory
  • Support the production of Exposure Management MI including catastrophe model results, portfolio analyses, RDS and other regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure ongoing data quality through review of daily, weekly, and monthly aggregation processes, working with underwriting teams to improve data capture.
  • Prepare bespoke analytical outputs for internal committees and senior management as required.
Analytics Development & Workflow
  • Assist Exposure Management with the improvement of aggregation workflows and drive automation, robustness, and scalability.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance internal analytics, reporting pipelines, and catastrophe risk workflows.
  • Contribute to the development of aggregation and scenario analysis capability across property and non‑property classes.
  • Work closely with IT and Exposure Management team members to design and help implement workflow, system, and methodology improvements.
  • Support the rollout of model, platform, and methodology updates, including troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
Methodology, Governance & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to projects evaluating catastrophe modelling methodologies and Exposure Management processes.
  • Support the implementation of new models, methodologies, and bespoke analytics aligned to business strategy and regulatory expectations.
  • Encourage adoption of Exposure Management tools, analytics, and MI across the business.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstratable knowledge or aptitude for computer programming is required for this role. SQL would be the most useful language.
  • An aptitude for numeracy is required in this role which will involve producing and interpreting statistics.
  • Demonstratable knowledge of geography, natural science, engineering. However, this does not require a science degree.
