Job summary

Kent Autistic Trust is seeking a Casual Support Worker to empower individuals at our Ashford Resource Centre. You will support 20 people, assist with personal care, everyday tasks, and activities while promoting dignity and independence.

Role involves calm, person-centered approaches, risk awareness, and collaborating with a friendly team across services. Sleep-in shifts and flexible casual hours may be required, with rewards and training provided.

Meet the Team:

Manor House, Club House and the Elliot Centre are all day services based at our Ashford Resource Centre. Providing support for 20 individuals. There is a sensory room, 2 gardens and 2 garden houses that the people we support can access and use providing additional space for various activities and a quieter environment when needed.

The individuals participate in a wide range of educational and leisure activities within the services and in the community including work experiences, art & crafts, music therapy, lava shell therapy, cycling and Swimming to name just a few.

We are looking for a Casual support worker who truly believes that everyone has the right to be involved in all aspects of their own life. In this role, you will provide practical and emotional support tailored to each individual, support with personal care, medication, and daily routines, encourage and empower people to make choices and take an active role in their lives, support individuals to access activities they enjoy, and help maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming home through shared domestic tasks such as cooking and cleaning. Some individuals may communicate through behaviour, particularly during times of anxiety or sensory overload, and you will use calm, consistent, person-centered approaches to understand and respond compassionately to each persons needs.

Tasks / Responsibilities of a Casual Support Worker (may include but not limited to):

• Drive a mobility car or service vehicle.
• Working with individuals who can display challenging behaviors hurting self or others, running away, throwing things, swearing, shouting and damaging property.
• Support individuals within the community in activities such as bike rides, long walks & shopping.
• Administering medication
• Assisting individuals with personal care and hygiene
• Be confident & experienced in lone working.
• Staff in CQC Registered and Supported Living services are required to undertake sleep-in shifts and receive an allowance, topped up to NLW
• Household management tasks including cooking, cleaning etc.
• Uphold their privacy, confidentially and dignity.
• Handle money to shop, going to the bank etc.
• Working with and supporting individuals with additional needs, such as epilepsy, pica, learning disabilities.
• To form good working relationships with other members of staff across different services.
• Ensuring written records are correctly maintained.
• Staff in CQC Registered and Supported Living services are required to undertake sleep-in shifts and receive an allowance, topped up to NLW where appropriate.
