Patient Related Tasks
  1. To direct patients, staff and visitors to all areas of the hospital.
  2. To escort patients between departments, wards, buildings.
  3. To transfer patients in a safe and appropriate manner to and from the wards and departments via means of walking, wheelchair, stretcher or beds.
  4. Use of task management system (HIVE) to enable effective management of activity within the portering service including the use of a two-way radio system.
  5. To convey blood specimens in a safe manner from wards/departments to Pathology department.
  6. Conveyance of patient notes and x-rays to and from wards/departments.
  7. Removal of deceased bodies from wards/departments to the mortuary in a safe and dignified manner and to assist in viewing in the absence of the mortuary technician.
  8. To accept coroners cases into the mortuary in the absence of the mortuary technician.
  9. Conveyance of deceased patients from ambulance to the mortuary.
  10. To replace medical gases where necessary on wards/departments for the requirements of patients within the contracted hours.
  11. To assist in the transfer of seriously injured patients from the ambulance/helicopter to the A & E department.
  12. To use the designated blood tracking system to give a more traceable structure for the benefit of both the patient and the department.
  13. To help the movement of medical supplies.
  14. To help transport, where specifically requested, in a safe manner patients from wards to theatres and vice versa after hours, between 20:00pm-08:00am.
  15. Assisting deceased patients to be pat-slid across from trolleys to the bed with assistance from the nursing staff.
  16. To attend emergency incidents and support clinical staff in the event of cardiac arrests, major haemorrhage activations, fire alarm activations and major incidents.
  17. To assist staff on the day case unit to transport patients to and from wards.
  18. To assist new starter inductions on the “buddy” programme where required.
  19. Respond to and complete tasks scheduled or by ad hoc request as per company policy within the specified timeframes.
Mail Room and Messenger Related Tasks
  1. Where applicable complete mail/specimens collection delivery rounds.
Waste Department
  1. Undertake collection of various waste streams including hazardous, clinical, domestic, and recyclable wastes from all departments and buildings within the Trust including premises remote from the main site.
  2. Ensure the correct segregation of all the waste streams.
Linen
  1. To deliver the appropriate amounts of clean linen to Wards using the “top up” system by 10:30am.
  2. Use of task management system (Hive) to enable effective management of activity within the Linen service.
  3. Inputting of linen stock levels using handheld terminals.
  4. Completing linen quality checks as per contractual requirements.
R&D
  1. To ensure all goods are delivered to wards and departments in a safe manner using equipment provided.
  2. Maintaining copies of all signatures for “signed for” items.
  3. To make sure deliveries of stock and non-stock items are delivered within the Trust guidelines.
  4. To ensure all returns are collected in a timely manner for return to suppliers.
