Job summary

Warwick College Group is seeking an Animal Centre Technician to join the on-site team at our UK-based college. The role involves maintaining animal welfare, preparing and caring for animals, and supporting teaching staff during practical sessions and events.

You will contribute to safe, high-quality animal care, develop enrichment activities, and assist in health and safety protocols. A Level 2+ animal qualification and reliable availability for weekends and education holidays are essential.

Qualifications

• Relevant Level 2 or above in an animal related qualification.
• Previous employment in an animal related organisation.
• Good levels of physical fitness for manual labour and outdoor working.
• Flexible and adaptable in your approach to ensure the welfare of the animals is number one priority, and to changing situations regularly.
• Punctual and reliable and the ability to work at industry pace.
• Excellent levels of organisational, timekeeping, problem solving and communication.
• Flexibility and a willingness to work weekends, evenings and education holidays.

Job description

This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College. In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based People Services Team. This role is temporary until 31st of August 2027. This role may involve: early starts, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and term breaks. Flexible availability is essential. Please note this area is quite remote so you would need your own/reliable transportation., Providing excellent animal care, and ensuring the highest standards of Animal Welfare is of paramount importance. To enable Animal Centre staff to perform their roles effectively and efficiently the Animal Technician will assist and support them in achieving this. This is an important post involving maintenance and technical support for the Animal Centre. It offer opportunities for personal development and growing responsibilities within the Programme Area. The College expects flexibility in its staff, and the successful applicant may well be required to broaden their range of expertise as they develop in their job.

Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder will be a member of the Animal Centre team and will be responsible to the Senior Instructor/Technician or their appointed representative. Animal Centre Technicians are required to maintain animal welfare to the highest standard, completing all animal husbandry tasks and maintaining the working environment including:

• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a professional and immaculate image and high standards of the Animal Centre, animal management and welfare
• Create a learning environment that will enable students to achieve their full potential in relation to facilities and resources available to them and support the teaching staff
• Contribute to the effective operation and professional nature of the Animal Centre
• Carry out day to day care of the animals within the centre, provide food, water and exercise to animals as per guidelines
• Maintaining animal accommodation and develop enrichment for animals within the accommodation under direction of senior staff
• Develop the skills of students/stakeholders utilising the Animal Centre, including monitoring of students who are assisting with centre duties and assisting with commercial events
• Support staff with the development of protocols and animal health schemes to ensure the highest standards of care
• Support the staffing of evening and weekend Open Events and Interviews
• Ensure all students/stakeholders are aware of and follow the Animal Centre Health & Safety Guidelines
• Apply and update health and safety processes and procedures and implement risk assessments effectively
• Prepare & set-up physical materials and equipment for practical teaching and commercial activities
• Maintain at all times a professional high standard of tidiness and cleanliness of equipment, facilities and animal welfare
• Assist in the operation of internal and external events and examinations including the preparation and closing down of events
• Assist in the maintenance of appropriate records for the management of the Animal Centre
• Assist in providing health, care and safety of all animals on College property
• Attend team meetings where required
• Assist in developing this area of work Provide staff cover where required by your Line Manager
• Complete staff training activities within specified deadlines
• Provide regular weekend and holiday care and welfare to the Animal Centre. Facilitate weekend casual staff to complete husbandry/welfare needs

Requirements
