About the Project
This Grant Seedcorn-funded project aims to develop and evaluate a Parent-Child Dialogic Book Reading programme designed to support young children's language and literacy development through shared reading interactions between parents and children.
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Research Assistant to provide research and administrative support throughout the project between November 2026 and July 2027. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting participant recruitment, maintaining communication with participating families, and assisting with the smooth delivery of the study. The role will operate under a hybrid working arrangement, with specific working patterns to be agreed with the line manager. Successful applicants should note that a minimum of seven working days must be undertaken in person in Durham during the contract period.
The successful applicant will be working directly with Dr Xiaofei Qi, the Principal Investigator (PI) for the research project.
Key Responsibilities
This post is fixed term for [8 months as the role is funded through a time-limited Seedcorn Grant and is required solely for the duration of the Parent-Child Dialogic Book Reading project, ending in July 2027]
The post-holder is employed to work on research/a research project which will be led by another colleague. Whilst this means that the post-holder will not be carrying out independent research in his/her own right, the expectation is that they will contribute to the advancement of the project, through the development of their own research ideas/adaptation and development of research protocols.
The successful applicant will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check, as the role involves working with children in educational and community settings, including visits to schools, nurseries and family hubs, and may involve one-to-one contact with child participants.
In addition to the DBS, the University will also require satisfactory evidence of the successful applicant's right to live and work in the UK prior to appointment.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK's Skilled Worker route. Applicants must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK at the time of application and for the full duration of the appointment.
