Job summary

TSI Incorporated in Kempston, UK is seeking an Electronics Engineer to deliver defined electronics and embedded outputs for environmental monitoring products while developing toward full independent Electronics & Embedded Design Engineer capability. You will own scoped work from the outset with mentoring as you progress.

You will design, build, test and verify prototypes, record results, and ensure compliance with company procedures and the QMS.

Role Purpose

To deliver defined electronic and embedded engineering outputs for new and existing environmental monitoring products while developing toward full independent Electronics & Embedded Design Engineer capability. The role will own appropriately scoped work from the outset, with mentoring and technical review provided where capability is still developing. Autonomy, technical complexity and accountability will increase as competence is demonstrated.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Design

• Own and deliver defined electronic and embedded development tasks or work packages to agreed requirements, quality and timescales.
• Produce and evaluate circuit designs, calculations, component selections and design updates appropriate to current capability, with review where required.
• Build, bring up, troubleshoot and verify prototypes, recording results, conclusions and required actions.
• Investigate design and product issues methodically, identify root cause and implement agreed corrective actions.

Technical Capability Development

• Develop and demonstrate increasing competence in electronics, embedded systems, sensors, signal conditioning, data acquisition and Casella/TSI product technologies.
• Apply engineering principles, design processes and best practice to assigned work, using feedback from mentoring and design review to improve subsequent output.
• Progressively take on larger, more complex and less supervised work packages as capability is demonstrated.
• Build and apply working knowledge of relevant product standards and regulatory requirements, escalating where specialist review is needed.

Documentation and Design Control

• Produce and maintain engineering specifications, design notes, test plans, test reports and other technical documentation for assigned work.
• Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials, design records, component data and engineering information.
• Ensure engineering records are accurate, complete, traceable and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
• Raise, progress and close ECNs and product-maintenance actions within delegated authority, clearly defining technical impact and implementation requirements.

Verification, Testing & Manufacturing Support

• Develop or improve production test, calibration and verification methods for assigned products or sub-systems.
• Plan and carry out laboratory testing, analyse data and produce clear evidence-based conclusions.
• Provide timely engineering support to prototype and production builds, documenting and closing agreed actions.
• Evaluate design performance, reliability, component suitability, cost and manufacturability, proposing practical improvements or risk-reduction actions.
• Deliver assigned commitments within multidisciplinary project teams and communicate progress, risks and dependencies early.
• Communicate technical evidence, decisions and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Work with suppliers, manufacturing partners and internal functions to resolve technical issues and progress assigned work.
• Take ownership of assigned actions, seek support when required and drive work through to completion.
• Work in accordance with company procedures, engineering standards and the QMS, escalating technical, safety, compliance or schedule risks early.
