Probe UK is seeking a Senior Electronic Design Engineer to lead hardware and firmware development from concept to production. The role covers analogue and digital design, PCB layout, and integration with third-party controllers and instrumentation.

Senior Electronic Design Engineer Role Overview

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Electronic Design Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of electronic system design, ensuring designs are robust and developed to a high quality and standard.

Covering the whole spectrum from concept to production across the entire range of products this role will focus on new product development and include a variety of short and long-term projects.

There is no management in this role, it will include a level of mentoring and support of more junior members of staff.

Senior Electronic Design Engineer Hours, Pay and Benefits

• £50,000 - £55,000
• 37 hours per week, 8:00am - 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, with a 1pm finish on Fridays (this is a full-time in office role)
• Benefits include: above average employer pension contribution of 6.5%, above average holiday allowance of 26 days plus bank holidays, 3 x salary life assurance, company bonus (first £3,000 is tax-free).

Senior Electronic Design Engineer Candidate Requirements

• Analogue & digital electronics, low power design experience.
• Proficient at electronic circuit design including schematic capture & PCB layout.
• Knowledge of microcontrollers, ADCs, DACs & communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI & USB.
• Experience of real-time firmware, preferably with C++.
• Strong problem-solving ability and critical thinking.
• Able to meet deadlines and motivated to deliver project goals.
• Committed and driven to work to high quality and performance standards.
• Familiarity with MRP systems (eg. AXAPTA, SAP) and design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for testability (DFT) techniques.
• Previous experience within the Medical or Lab Equipment type industries would be ideal, but is not essential.

Senior Electronic Design Engineer Key Responsibilities

New Product Development

Develop robust, reliable and future-proof solutions to support data acquisition and control of new products including:

• Printed circuit board design, development and validation
• Firmware development and validation
• Integration with third party controllers, transducers, instrumentation, drives, etc

Current Product and Production Support

• Find solutions to component obsolescence to maintain product continuity and lead times
• Support Customer Services in the resolution of electronics related issues
• Support End-of-line testing and debugging of newly built products & pre-production prototypes
• Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers

Compliance

• Ensure electronic systems comply with electrical safety, EMC, REACH, RoHS regulations, etc
• Effective documentation of designs and firmware including design changes
